Dog (and human) DIY Bug Spray

If you aren’t familiar with my blog posts allow me to change that. I like to keep it short, sweet, and informative. I don’t mess around when it comes to fleas and ticks. This is a recipe we have been using for dogs and humans in our family for many years and it has been very effective. I do want to add that I believe the prevention of such pests really works in a layered approach. This is just one of the things we do, but it is one we do daily. Also, check out the video (an oldie but a goody) of me making it on instagram if you’re more of a visual person. Enjoy!

In a 16 oz tinted spray bottle (preferably glass but use caution) add at 2 of the following essential oils:

30 drops cedarwood

15 drops lemongrass

10 drops geranium

10 drops of lavender

Next, add 1tsp of witch hazel (I prefer the Thayers brand)

Fill the bottle to the shoulder with filtered water (not tap)

Shake before applying to the legs and body (avoid the face). We spray before each walk or first thing in the morning before first outs.

TIP: My dogs nearly always have bandanas on and guess what I spray onto those every morning before they “get dressed”..

I hope this, and the other prevention methods we use, serve you and your pups well!
